Seller says eBay is holding payment
I purchased an item by auction. I won the auction and got a price for an item that is about 40% cheaper than I have seen the item anywhere. The seller contacted me 1 week after my payment was made saying eBay is holding up payment. They suggested I could just cancel it. I said no I want the item. I made payment and my card was charged. The seller contacted me a week later and asked me to please cancel the order because eBay was still holding up payment. I again said no thank you. I won the auction and paid for it I’m patient I’ll wait for eBay to fix it. Is this something that happens or is this person just trying to get out of the sale because the auction went so cheap. How can I contact eBay to find out if this person has been paid?

OP3 years agoI didn’t ask for a refund they are asking me to cancel because eBay hasn’t released the funds to them.

Just wait until you can open an item not received case for a refund.

·3 years agoIf the seller is fairly new, they can hold the funds for 30 days.
Some new sellers don't want to ship when the funds are on hold but they don't realize they won't get paid if they don't ship.
If you did ask to cancel, they probably wouldn't be able to refund because they have to cover the refund since the funds are being held.

Mentor3 years agoThere is nothing for eBay to fix. This is likely a new seller who won't have the payment released until he ships and the item is delivered. They longer he waits, the longer it will take to get his money. Sounds like he doesn't know the process.
Don't agree to cancel. There will be no consequences for him if you do.
When it's past the estimated delivery date shown in your Purchase History, you have up to 30 days to use the option next to the transaction to open a case for an item not received. The seller will have 3 business days to prove delivery or refund. If he doesn't, go back to the case on day 4 and use the option to ask eBay to step in. They will force the refund.
I know you'd rather have the item than a refund. You might suggest he come here to ask for help on what to do.

OP3 years agoHe canceled the order. The reason he gave was buyer requested cancellation after I told him repeatedly I did not want to cancel. Since the order was canceled I can’t even leave feedback to warn other buyers. I do not know haw this is even possible.
