Seller safety for Buyer purchasing trading cards and being shipped to Freight forwarder in Florida
Summary: lanwo-28 is concerned about shipping three orders of trading cards in one package to a buyer in Honduras, using a freight forwarder in Florida. They plan to use eBay's UPS shipping with full insurance but worry about potential claims of missing items due to the light package weight. They seek advice on what precautions to take as the items are valued at a few hundred dollars.
Hi,
Hi, i have a buyer who purchased 3 items from me with 3 separate orders. I am going to combine them to be shipped in one box with the same tracking # purchased through eBay via UPS with insurance for full value. They are trading cards so the weight of the box is going to very light around 5-8oz.
The buyer is using a freight forwarder located in florida because he is in honduras. I am afraid he may claim box delivered but missing items in a few weeks, how does that work as a seller given that package weight is going to be low when showing proof? or what precautions should i take? the value is a couple hundred dollars.

First! Congrats on great sale!
Second! I would be careful with this one, but I would still ship it.
Since the buyer is using a freight forwarder in Florida, your main job is to have solid proof that the package was delivered to the exact address shown in the eBay Order details.
If all 3 orders have the same Florida shipping address and you combine them into one package, make sure the same UPS tracking number is uploaded to all 3 orders.
I would also add Signature Confirmation. It is only required by eBay when an order total is $750 or more, but for several hundred dollars in trading cards going to a freight forwarder, I would personally spend the extra few dollars. It gives you additional proof that the package was actually received at that address.
I would also:
buy the label through eBay
use the exact address from Order details
get a UPS acceptance receipt
enter the correct package weight
insure it for the full value
take a photo of all 3 cards before packing and another of the sealed package
The photos are not a substitute for tracking, but I would still keep them.
The important protection here is that eBay specifically says an item forwarded after the original delivery through a third-party freight forwarder is not covered by eBay Money Back Guarantee. So once UPS shows successful delivery to the Florida address from the Order details, if something happens after the forwarder sends it on to Honduras, that freight-forwarding exclusion becomes very important.
I would not ship directly to Honduras or to any different address the buyer sends you in a message.
