Seller revised listing after purchase – item not as described & case closed due to 30-day rule
I’m looking for guidance from a mentor or eBay staff on a closed “item not as described†case that I believe involves a policy issue.
At the time of purchase, the seller’s listing stated the item was compatible with a 2005–2006 Acura RSX. This compatibility is still shown on my purchase receipt. After the item was delivered, the seller later revised the listing to show compatibility only for 2002–2004 models.
When the parts were installed by a mechanic, it was confirmed the item is incorrect and unsafe for my vehicle (control arms incorrect and ball joint does not seat into the knuckle). The vehicle is now inoperable.
There was a delay in installation because I was out of town at the time of purchase and needed to schedule a mechanic once I returned. Once the issue was discovered, I contacted the seller multiple times through eBay messages but received no response.
I filed a claim, but it was closed because it was reported more than 30 days after delivery. My concern is that the case was evaluated based on timing alone, not on the fact that:
The item was not as described at the time of sale
The seller changed the listing after purchase
The seller was non-responsive
My understanding is that buyer protection should be based on the listing as it existed at the time of purchase, not after a revision.
Is there a way to request a manual review or escalation when a listing revision after purchase materially changes compatibility and the seller does not respond?
Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Mentor8 months agoThe listing is locked in for what it said/read when you purchased the item.
If the seller changed the listing after your purchase, it does not backdate to your item and you should still be able to view the listing as you purchased it.
(there will be a note that the listing was revised but you can see the item as you purchased as a link on the page)
At this point, you can reach out to your payment processor to perhaps file a charge back on the payment for the item. eBay has a 30 day from date of delivery to file a complaint. The case was evaluated on the time you opened it. In fact, the changing of the listing would not have played into the case at all if you filed a "not as described" reason for opening the return request
