Seller requires 5+ feedback
I'm trying to bid on several items from the same seller, but I get the error message
"You are unable to purchase this item due to restrictions from the seller. You have winning bids, submitted offers or bought 1 item(s) from this seller in the past 10 days. Please contact the seller for more information"
The seller replied that this is an ebay rule and that ebay will lift the restriction once I have 5+ feedback.
They also said that they see that I only have 3 feedback, but I have 10, all positive. Why is 3 the number next to my name?
The shop's been around for a long time and has 60k+ happy sales... is the seller being cautious around me 'cause I'm new? Are they straight out lying to me? Is this a real ebay rule? Why can I bid on exactly 1 of their items but no more?
I've contacted the seller with these questions but they just double down on this being ebay policy and out of their hands.
Will linking my feedback page and insisting I'm not a scammer help warm them up to me?
Sorry for the long post, I've never been outright denied service before- sellers have had nothing but glowing praise for me as a reliable buyer so I'm a bit frazzled and havent really been able to find the answers myself.
I appreciate any advice, sorry for being a noob

Mentor2 years agoThat is not an eBay rule, it is a rule the seller has selected. The feedback filter is your feedback score, not the actual number of feedback you have received.
You can not completely block a buyer just based on feedback, so the 1 item limit is as close as he can get to excluding new members.
I would find a different seller - some sellers are just paranoid about dealing with new members.

Hopefully I can navigate ebay less clumisly in the future.

·2 years agoThat is not an eBay rule, it is an option eBay gives sellers to restrict the number of his/her items any one buyer can buy from him in a 10 day period (at least some pending bids or offers count towards that limit, and there is no exemption for placing additional bids on the same auction--another good reason to bid only ONCE per auction at your TRUE maximum the first time). There is a further setting for that option to exempt those with more than x feedback score (it is worded to apply the option only to those with less than x--5 being the highest value allowed for x--but that tends to confuse sellers who think that tweak to the main option is a standalone option to block anyone with less than x from buying anything).
Multiple purchases from the same seller during the same week only count as 1 transaction for purposes of your feedback score and percentages, so the 5 your received from 1 seller and the 4 from another each only counts as 1, hence you received 10 ratings but only 3 count. And ALL buyers have "nothing but glowing praise" because that is all that eBay allows sellers to leave for buyers.
I would not advise messaging the seller again, unless you are prepared to live with him/her blocking you from ever buying from him/her again and/or having your pending bids cancelled.

OP2 years ago1. Thank you for educating me. Yeah, the feedback thing is obvious in hindsight.
2. I didn't realize how haughty that sounded. See, my country has it's own secondhand platform (which was actually owned by ebay 2006-2015) where sellers can leave negative reviews. I wrongly assumed ebay worked the same way.
(This is the reason I'm such a noob- I only look to ebay when things aren't available localy)
