Seller refusing to ship
Summary: faith10016 is facing an issue with a seller who accepted their offer on a bulky item but now wants to cancel the transaction due to a shipping cost miscalculation. faith10016 is concerned that the seller might cancel the order before they can report it as unreceived. glorybells advises that while eBay can't force shipment, they can ensure a refund if the case is opened and escalated. If eBay intervenes for the refund, it may result in a seller defect, but if the seller refunds voluntarily, there will be no penalties. faith10016 can also leave feedback to inform other buyers.
Seller accepted my offer on a large bulky item. Her shipping calculation was off by about $350. Her response to every attempt to get more information has been that this is too difficult for her and she will just cancel the transaction. How can I get help from eBay? They're saying I can't report and unreceived item for 3 more day - by then she will have cancelled my transaction. I have asked for documentation of the increased amount and she doesn't even have any or hasn't provided any. Please help!

·Jul 13, 2026 at 6:00 PMEBay can’t force the seller to ship. They CAN make sure you get your money back. When the estimated date of delivery has passed, the next day you can open an item not received case. The seller will have 3 days to refund you. If they don’t, you return to the case and escalate it to eBay. They will force the refund from the seller.

·Jul 13, 2026 at 6:11 PMDepends on the outcome of you opening a case. If they voluntarily refund - quickly - no, there’s no reprimand. But if eBay has to force the refund, they get a defect against their seller account and don’t get their seller fees refunded. Defects are a big deal for sellers. If they’re not a US seller, just having the case opened at all will count against their BBE metric.
When that part is resolved, you can (for up to 60 days after the purchase, leave calm, factual feedback for the seller giving other buyers a heads up about the issues you ran into.
