"Seller pays for return shipping."
Anyone else getting a lot of return shipping deducted, upon seller receiving return from sellers who's listings state "Free returns."? When NO WHERE in the listing does the seller clearly state when they will and when they won't pay for return shipping. I know they can set it up on their end the way they want, but shouldn't it be stated in the listing? Otherwise how are buyers to know? I find this dishonest and misleading.

'Free returns' means that the seller always pays for return shipping ... regardless of the reason for the return.
Sellers who offer free returns ... and have other 'qualifications' that I can't recall ... are allowed to deduct up to 50% of the total transaction cost if the item is returned in a lesser condition than when sold. [From posts I've read from buyers ... some sellers seem to be abusing this power ... and are deducting money for no apparent reason.]
It is eBay that gives certain sellers the ability to deduct from the refund ... and there's no policy that a seller would state in the listing.
If you feel that your refund is being reduced for no understandable reason ... you can contact eBay for the remaining of the refund.

OP3 years agoThanks for your response. That's what I thought, and I did ask ebay to step in. One agent agreed with me and refunded my money immediately. Another agreed and said they would refund, but it didn't go through so I contacted them again with the transcript, and the new agent said the previous agent was wrong. After some discussion, and me repeating that no where in the sellers' listings did they give any disclaimers as to when they would or would not pay for pay for return shipping, they said it was due to a "remorse" reason and it was the sellers' policy, but no where does it state that in the listing, and I told them that. The agent finally gave me ebay coupons for the missing refunded fees.
One seller said it was rated a "remorse" purchase (items didn't fit) therefore they didn't have to, the other didn't respond at all. I always ask the seller if I should start a return and give them the reason for the return. At no time did they tell me they would be deducting my original shipping fee form the refund. It's odd, because all the sellers that offer free shipping up front and free returns always give me a full refund.
While the agents noted my reasons, there is no where to give feedback to ebay about this. Frustrating.
