Seller no longer on eBay — how can I return a defective item?
Summary: 2myr5-13 purchased an iPhone 15 Pro on eBay, which was advertised as new, but it has a hardware malfunction. The seller is no longer active on eBay, complicating a return. fashionsandbeauty4u suggested using eBay's 30-day Money Back Guarantee to file an Item Not as Described claim. If the purchase falls outside this period, it's recommended to pursue a chargeback with the payment provider.
I purchased an iPhone 15 Pro on eBay about a month and a half ago. The phone was advertised and sold as brand new, and it did come in a sealed apple box.
Unfortunately, the phone has what appears to be a hardware problem. The front camera/TrueDepth system is malfunctioning and Face ID is no available.
I tried contacting the seller, but I discovered that the seller is no longer registered/active on eBay. Because of this, I don't seem to have an option to start a return or contact the seller through the normal process.
What are my options in this situation? Is there a way to open a defective-item claim directly with eBay when the seller is no longer on the platform? The item was purchased a few weeks ago and was sold as new.
Any advice on the correct process would be appreciated. Thank you.

Mentor3 weeks ago@2myr5-13 You are still covered by the eBay MBG even though the seller is no longer registered. Just follow my fellow Mentor's advice to file a return request case. Then ask eBay to step in and help on the 4th business day. eBay will either make the seller issue a return label OR a full refund.

eBay has a 30-day Money Back Guarantee for Buyer Purchase Protection. Your purchases are covered for up to 30 days from delivery if you either never received the item or the item arrived and it's not as shown in the listing. In those cases and that timeframe, you can go to your Purchase History, find the item and open an Item Not as Described refund request, even when the Seller is no longer on eBay.
If it has been more than 30 days since delivery, your option would be to try to file a chargeback with your payment source. They also have deadlines.
