seller fees from ebay
When I sell a product, ebay takes a percentage of the flat rate fee I charge for shipping and envelope, as well as for the product I am selling. Why? If I charge the buyer what it costs to ship it, I don't understand why Ebay takes a percentage of the total amount to the buyer. How can I change that so that ebay does not charge the seller (me) a fee for the shipping charge to the buyer as well? That doesn't seem fair, so I figure there must be a way around that. If I don't charge shipping, I have to add it to the price so ebay is still getting a percentage of the shipping anyway. Help!

eBay fees are based on the total amount you are paid. That’s item price, and shipping, and taxes.
There is no way around it.

OP3 years agoAfter reading the reasons Ebay does this, I understand. Unfortunately Ebay was forced into it. 😞

Long ago, eBay charged the final value fee on only the item price and not the shipping. Then a few enterprising chaps discovered that they could sell a $100 item for $1 and charge $99 for the shipping. That way, they still got the $100 they wanted, but paid the fee on only $1. eBay eventually wised up to this scheme, and their solution was to charge the fee on the total amount of the transaction.

OP3 years agoAhhh! Now I understand. In other words, dishonesty forces those of us who are honest to pay the price. I fully understand why eBay does that now. 😔.
