seller creates shipping label, sends a message the item has shipped but it hasn't.....
i ordered parts to repair an electric dryer, unfortunately from 2 different sellers. although both told me they were shipped the next day, only one was. the one which wasn't printed a shipping label and was not picked up by usps until 6 days later even though the seller told me it was on the way. how do i know this? i asked the local postmaster to check the tracking number the seller provided. yep, you guessed it, the number wasn't in the system.
it appears the seller has a label printer at home and considered printing "a" label to mean "shipping". i'm not a seller therefore not familiar with ebay seller policy. is this considered standard operating procedure? from the seller response i believe it might be. the first seller, who really shipped it on the first, arrived 3 days later. the seller in question sent a 5 day delivery window for its item which meant it could take 10 days to deliver. that should have been a clue. then after i questioned "why so long?" they changed the delivery to an even later date while admitting the item was really picked up by usps on the 8th.
since the delayed seller said it had shipped (when it didn't) i could not cancel the order or have it returned until i actually picked it up (i have a po box). and after attempting to discuss the issue with "ebay help" (talk about a misnomer) this process will drag out for over a month or more.
as this is a political year, i want to be totally transparent. i placed the order june 29th. which meant delivery sometime after july 4th. i didn't count the 4th in the delivery window. so i was quite impressed with the 1st seller's response.
i have 3 questions for the community; has this ever happened to anyone else? ebay help, does it really help? what should i have done differently?
thanks in advance.

OP2 years agothe community was helpful. i sent another response to the seller. still haven't heard from them. since it took longer than planned, and we were without a dryer. i bought one locally and fixed it that day. really would like to hear from the seller.......

Mentor2 years agoUnfortunately, when a seller prints the shipping label, ebay sends a message that the item has shipped. Sellers have been trying for years to have ebay change that message. For that reason, I do not print the shipping label until the morning I actually plan to ship. Sellers can have a handling time from same day up to 30 days, so always check the estimated delivery date BEFORE you decide to make the purchase. The seller will have a defect recorded on his account for late shipping if the package does not have an acceptance scan within his handling time.
