Seller cancels
Why is this not a selection from drop down only that buyer asked to cancel. Yes only after message from seller that they either don’t have it in stock, item damaged, or can no longer find said item. So makes me look bad as a buyer that I asked to cancel. They need a different system for this issue.

The seller is trying to trick you into requesting the cancellation in order to avoid a defect on his account.
As a buyer, you should not ask to cancel if the seller is notifying you that he can't/won't ship. You should reply by stating that he must cancel the transaction himself using the reason that the item is out of stock or damaged and that if there is a misrepresentation of the reason for the cancellation request, it will be reported to eBay.

Actually, the cancellation page for Sellers in this case only has three choices.
-Problem with address
-Buyer requested
-Out of stock
The Out of stock reason would give the Seller a strike on their account and in this case they deserve that.
If you ask them to cancel or agree in a message to have it cancelled, then they can use the Buyer requested reason and avoid a strike. Sometimes if they try to print a label with an incorrect address and it fails OR the Buyer messages them to ship to a different address, then they can use the Problem with address reason to cancel because eBay expects them to ship to the address on file at the time of the order plus they lose their Seller protection if they ship elsewhere.
