Seller cancelled order to resell for higher $
I ordered a replacement part for a Christmas tree star on November 1st. On November 7th when the item still hadn’t shipped I inquired about it through eBay messages. Seller claimed he had lots of interest, and was trying to make several of them (even though my item was listed as “last oneâ€)… so, after waiting nearly 2 weeks for the item to ship, and being upset about the delay, the seller taunted me with cancelling my order, claiming that he had lots of interested offers. I didn’t agree to that because I wanted the item. I kept asking for an update on the tracking information - which hadn’t been updated since 11/2. His response today was that it was “shipped yesterday†….then a few minutes after he wrote that in the eBay messager, he canceled my order and refunded me. He basically took my item and is re-selling it for a higher price. He even has a new ad for the item with the higher price but my item was returned with “out of stock/damaged†as the reason. I can’t even contact a live person to report this. I’m heartbroken as this is a very difficult item to find and he has a machine to make them. I can’t even review the seller and warn others, because I didn’t get the item…so there’s no option for that. I have reported the seller and reported the chat message so eBay can see what he did. It won’t make up for the disappointment that he took the item from me.

Mentor2 years agoYou can still leave feedback to let others know your order was cancelled so that the seller could sell to someone else for more.
The good news is that the seller received a defect on his seller account. Too many of those and his seller rating will be lowered or he could lose his selling privileges entirely.
You can also report the seller here if you are inclined:

OP2 years agoThank you that is helpful to know about the feedback but because my order was cancelled, it appears I don’t have a way to leave it. I want to warn others about his price gauging and shady practices. Any suggestions?
I definitely reported him but I doubt I’ll hear from eBay. He’s selling the item for a higher price but cancelled my order because he wanted to get more money. His new listing keeps coming up in my feed. Makes me so mad.

Mentor2 years agoIf he used the reason that the item was out of stock/damaged, you should be able to leave feedback. On your Purchase History page, click Returns and Cancelled. You should find the feedback option next to the order transaction.
Just a note...the seller isn't price gouging. He can set whatever price he wants. Price gouging is charging highly inflated price for items that are in short supply during an emergency (think toilet paper during the early days of the pandemic). The violation is that he cancelled your order and relisted at a higher price.

OP2 years agoThanks for helping me through this and I do see the “leave feedback†button on my purchase history page but it’s grayed out. I can’t even click on it. I suspect it’s because my money was refunded (?) As for the reported listing, unfortunately, there are no good descriptions for what happened to me when I tried to specify the reason, so I did list it as seller violated policy and picked the closest secondary description that I could. It’s weird, I would think the description drop downs would be easier to find - “seller canceled sale to relist for higher priceâ€.
I’m frustrated that I have no way to leave a review/feedback on his handling of this sale. I wish it was something I could just go get somewhere else but it’s not and it was for an antique Christmas tree star - it’s heartbreaking. I just can’t believe how scummy he was just to make an extra $25. I even have a comment from him after I expressed that he keeps promising a ship date and still hasn’t sent the item and he wrote: “ hey, if you want to cancel your order, I can, I have a waiting list!†…only to see his new listing right in front of my face.
It’s all so maddening.
