Seller cancelled my order then relisted under another name at much higher price
Hi all,
My business is concerned with the repair and resale of electronic test equipment.
Last week i spotted a Marconi 2955 test set listed as parts only at £80 BIN, which is a bit of a bargain, a tested working one goes for about £700, so i snapped it up straight away. At this point, i should point out that the listing had only been showing for about an hour at most.
About an hour later i get a message saying 'very sorry its been sold locally this morning', to which i replied 'it must have sold quick' and a reply came back saying that he'd only listed it last night (first red flag). He did however refund straight away.
Anyway, one of the things i offer on eBay is a repair service for this particular bit of kit. A couple of days later i get a message from another user saying he has a problem in that the screen just shows a load of random characters. This is a common problem, just requiring the circuit boards to be pulled out and refitted a couple of times to clean the connectors, so i do the right thing and advise him to try that as they're big and heavy things to post and more trouble than its worth for an hour's labour. Later i get a reply thanking me as it had done the job.
Earlier today i spot the same guy selling said piece of equipment for £560 OBO, and guess what? It's 100% the same one i had tried to buy previously for £80 from (presumably) the same seller on a different account. The photo's are different as they now show it working, but it has the same 'tested' label in the same place, the same adaptors fitted, its even photographed on the same tiled floor with the same doormat and the same pile of DVD players (or similar) in the edge of the shot.
I messaged him, saying i'd rumbled him and i wasn't impressed. I then get a reply saying it was his grandad who'd listed his 2955 without his knowledge (different from the original 'sold locally' **bleep** i was given to begin with).
I don't know why he didn't say that in the first place, i'm always selling my grandkids stuff without telling them, only for them to sell it themselves immediately they find out 🙄
Is there any point in reporting this?
Cheers,
Pete
