Seller asking me to cancel a transaction multiple times for a mistake they made.
As the title states, I purchased a solar generator from a seller and within a few hours of payment they message saying they underpriced their item, and would like ME to cancel the order. They went so far as to try to guilt me into canceling, saying they would lose their job if I didn't. This back forth went on for about 2-3 days, and eventually was fed up at thist point and decided I wasn't going to initiate a cancellation on my part for their mistake, and decided to go no contact after they pestered me for 3 days. Well, today I receive a package from FedEx from the seller and instantly knew it couldn't be what I originally purchased, since the item came in a small box and weigh in at 1lb which is nowhere near the weight of a portable solar generator that weigh upwards of 40lb.
I've never encountered this situation on ebay, and would really appreciate some help on how I should proceed.
Thanks in advance

Mentor3 years agoAll you can do is return what you received for a refund - you can’t force the seller to ship the correct item.
Go to your purchase history - select return this item. Under reasons select does not match the description, and follow the prompts.
The seller has 3 business days to send you a return label or a refund. If he doesn't, or says he can not send a label, go to your case and click 'ask us to step in'.

OP3 years agoHello wooden_flower,
Thank for your input!
Yeah, I figured that I don't have many other options than to return for a refund, and leave negative feedback.
I'm also a seller on ebay, and have committed the same error of not doing enough research before posting a new item, and having it sell at a huge loss.
Cancelling without the buyers consent has consequences and this Seller definitely knows the ins n' outs of ebay since they knew if they were the ones to cancel this transaction, they would receive a 'out of stock' defect on top of negative feedback.
Essentially, they found a way around that by sending any item with tracking#, and as long as it arrived they would be free of those consequences.

OP3 years agoDon't know, I guess I'm just frustrated with this hole situation.
I know buyers can basically return for a refund for basically any reason, so I know I'll get my money back.

Mentor3 years agoBe careful when you select the reason for return - if sold with no returns, a seller can decline any return that is not 'not as described'.
I guess this seller is willing to spend shipping x 2 to avoid the defect.

OP3 years agoHello, good morning!
Yeah, It was either going to be 'item not as described' or 'received wrong item'.
I went with the latter.
All I'm waiting for now is for them to approve the return, so I can get this thing ship out Asap.
Thanks for all your help ðŸ™

OP3 years agoHello again wooden_flower,
Sorry to bother you again.
Just wanted to update you on the situation.
The seller accepted the return, and I shipped the cheap $10 dollar phone charger back to them. I made sure go inside the post office and get a receipt for proof of shipping. But now, sellers asking me for my email address to send my refund through PayPal, instead of doing it directly though ebay.
I guess my question is: should I give them my email address, so they can send the refund through PayPal, or should I keep it strictly on the ebay platform?
This might be another one of their tricks 🤔

Mentor3 years agoDo not go outside of eBay. He is trying to trick you into closing your return.
If the seller does not refund within 2 business days after receiving your return, use the 'ask us to step in' link in your return.
