Seller asking for personal tax ID?
I recently purchased some car parts from a seller in Hong Kong. I received the following message from the seller: Thank you for your payment. Please provide your personal tax ID number. Shipping to the United States now requires the recipient's tax ID number to be provided to the shipping company to facilitate the collection of product taxes.
Initially I thought this was for sure a scam but in doing some research and further communication with the seller, it does seem like the shippers require the "Ultimate Consignee ID Number". Is this because of the suspension of the de minimis exemption or is this just a scam? I feel like this is against Ebay's personal information sharing policy. What do I do?
