Seller asking for cancellation
Just won an auction for a Leica M9 and after confirmation and submitting payment I received a message from the seller asking me to cancel the transaction as he discovered a defect on the camera sensor. Does this sound suspicious, and if so how and should I contact eBay?

Well, first, you can not cancel the transaction; only the seller can. The buyer can only request the cancellation, but that's what the seller is wangling for.
For some reason we don't know but could probably guess, the seller doesn't want to sell that Leica. He can cancel the transaction, but he is required to choose from a short list of reasons when he does. Some of the reasons result in eBay giving his account a Defect; a few other reasons don't. The reason "Buyer Requests a Cancellation" is one that does not. This seller is trying to maneuver you into making that request. Acquiescing to his suggestion amounts to a request.
It's possible that he could tell a lie and go ahead and choose "Buyer Request" even if you don't. But you'll see that on the cancellation notice, and you know you didn't so you can Report the seller. Then he'll be in even more trouble.
