Seller’s rights
The original persons that encouraged me to sell on eBay left a long time ago. From my experiences, a buyer can decide not to pay the seller without any repercussions. A buyer can withdraw a bid whenever they feel like it without any repercussions. Most recently, a buyer csn open a case on an item they did not receive. Once a case is opened, the seller cannot reopen a case. I had a buyer claim they did not receive an item. eBay returned her money out of my pocket. Two weeks later, she received the item. I was told I could not open a case that was closed. I lost 318.47 dollars. She received the item. I had already been forced to return her money. eBay told me the only thing I could do was attempt to contact the buyer and kindly ask for my money that I had returned to her. She did not. It does not matter who the buyer is. As sellers, do we have any rights?
I am not a person that complains about things for no reason or someone that likes the sound of my voice. I feel like eBay does not give sellers any protection. I’m greatly saddened by this.
I don’t have a particular vendetta towards or about eBay. I have had a lot of good experiences here. I have sold over 7000 items on eBay. But, I believe eBay should “have my back†as a seller that has generated a lot of money for them.
I have a near perfect record with eBay according to feedback, paying my dues on time, and representing eBay in a positive light .
I apologize for the long post. As sellers, do we have any rights? I believe this is a legitimate question.
please let me know if I have rights I have overlooked
cheers

There have been delays in some USPS bulk centers in GA and TX ... if your package passed through one of those that could easily be the issue for that transaction. eBay is aware of those delays.
If the Buyer filed an Item not received claim I assume from your longevity here you uploaded the tracking number to the claim?!? I have filed Missing Mail pieces with USPS that have helped get packages moving, did that a lot during Covid.
Little know fact: eBay actually will allow Seller to call to get an extension on and INR claim and they will extend the claim window up to four days from the day the Seller contacts them. During Covid they were allowing 10 days extension but Sellers had to make the call to get that (even though it should have been automatic for EVERY package in my opinion).
You said eBay refunded the Buyer ... does that mean you did not refund them through the claim they processed?
I am really sorry this happened and my view is that eBay SHOULD have a process in place whereby they HOLD the money after a claim has been completed JUST on the oft chance that a package arrives late. This would be justifiable because the Buyer was will to pay for the item in the first place so there is nothing wrong with letting them do that a few days later than original planned.

OP2 years agoThanks for your response. The tracking number was uploaded through eBay. I bought the label from eBay. When the buyer claimed she did not receive the item, she was refunded. The package was not delivered, of course she should be refunded! I left out that I bought shipping insurance through eBay which was through a third party, I can’t remember the name right now. But, she didn’t receive the item, she was refunded. When I was alerted that the package actually arrived, albeit two weeks late, eBay told me I could not “reopen†a closed case. Therefore I could not claim the insurance money because the package arrived. I could not open a case even though I had new “evidence “ that the package arrived without any damage.
I spent hours on the phone with shipping insurance, eBay, and USPS. I refunded the money. She received the item. She was not required to pay me a dime.
