Seeking Community Insight: Repeated Authentication Discrepancy Issue
Hello eBay Community,
I’m reaching out to see whether other long-time sellers have experienced a similar issue with the eBay Authenticity Guarantee process and, if so, how it was ultimately resolved.
I’ve been selling on eBay for approximately 25 years, including fine jewelry, and this is the first time I’ve encountered a situation like this. A ring I listed has now gone through the authentication process twice. Both times, the authenticator confirmed the item as authentic but noted a “minor discrepancy,†stating that a small sidestone is missing from the mounting.
I want to clarify that I am a Graduate G.I.A Gemologist, and I have personally examined this ring in detail on multiple occasions, including immediately prior to shipment. There is no sidestone missing from the setting.
The mounting is complete and consistent with its original design. In my professional opinion, the discrepancy appears to stem from a misinterpretation of the setting design rather than an actual defect. I'm starting to wonder if someone has actually physically examined this ring because if they have, they would clearly observe there is no discrepency. Are they somehow using AI??
What concerns me most is that the same incorrect conclusion has been reached twice for the same ring, despite no change to the item. I am currently working with eBay customer support to escalate the issue, but I wanted to ask the community:
Have any of you experienced repeated or inaccurate discrepancy findings through the authentication process? If so, were you able to get the issue corrected, and what steps or escalation paths were most effective? Are there any recommendations for communicating with eBay or ensuring a more accurate review?
I value the Authenticity Guarantee program overall and am not attempting to undermine it, but I’m hoping to learn from others who may have experienced and have navigated similar challenges.
Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences or advice.
Best regards,
