'See original listing' leads to error page - can a seller remove or is it ebay error?
Hi, I purchased an item (1 from a listing of multiples) which turned out not to work as expected - unfortunately i didn't screenshot the original listing so now when I click on the item in my purchase history it says 'The listing below has been updated by the seller, but you can see the item you purchased' - when I click on the underscored wording link I just get an error message. I've never had that happen before. I'm curious to know if this is just an ebay glitch/result of listing being updated or if it's potentially possible for a seller to remove the listing for the original item in order to hide the fact that the updated listing for items now includes a disclaimer saying item may not work but is a quick fix. I'm curious because I emailed seller at 10.48am, the listing revision info says description updated at 10.51 and 10.54am that day and the seller first replied at 10.53! (Descriptions were updated c. 11am for all similar items). Is there anyway to get that original listing to see where I stand as it feels iffy as the quick fix didn't work and seller won't accept a return or give any sort of refund as item 'opened is no longer new'. I tried the ?nordt=true but I still got an error message. Many thanks.

OP10 months agoMany thanks for all your help - yes I may be over thinking this! The seller has communicated their feelings on the matter so I'm feeling apprehensive about pursuing it. But your info is nice and clear which really helps so I will give it a go. Thanks again.

OP10 months agoThanks - unfortunately I still can't then get the highlighted link to work (links for other purchases from other sellers do work). I'm pretty sure the seller will refuse a return as they have said as much, so if I escalate and whoever checks can't see that original listing either could just say I have no case for a return/ refund. I mean it's not a huge amount of money but it's the principle as I won't be the first or last - if it is correct that this seller has been disingenuous - and of course without that original listing I can't be certain, but the description update times do look sus.

Mentor10 months agoThat particular "item you purchased" link only appears for you as a buyer of that item, so I cannot actually see it or check it from my end.

I can see the item description was last updated twice on October 8th, but not what was changed.

You may be overthinking this, though; regardless of whether a disclaimer was present at the time of a purchase, if a buyer files a "not as described" return, eBay will automatically side with the buyer 99% of the time. In the US, if the seller is top-rated, the seller might be able to deduct up to 50% of the refund if the returned item is not in original condition, but the seller may simply decide it is not worth paying for return shipping and refund outright. If the seller does not cooperate, after three business days the buyer should be able to ask eBay to step in and force a full refund with or without a return.

OP10 months agoHi - Thanks for your reply. I've tried chrome and MS Edge but still get the ebay error page. I can see the current updated listing but not the one as it was when I purchased and presumably up until the point the seller may have updated the description after I contacted them with the issue. Try using another browser to rule out a browser issue preventing the link from loading.
If that does not help, what is the item number if you do not mind sharing?
