Search syntax??
Hi everybody -- can anybody tell me what the syntax is for making a search string?? I am trying for find selected Canon printer cartridges using the current search string "canon (240, 240xl, 240xxl, 241, 241xl, 241xxl) -empty -refill."Â Advanced Search does not work for this because I want to include some terms and exclude some terms. But when I run this search I get items that don't have any of the 240's or 241's in the results. And I get items outside of the category I am searching. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. The 240xxl is an ink cartridge, I believe, so I will assume you are searching for ink rather than toner.

Your search may be working, but may be bringing in additional listings that match your search terms in the item-specifics or in the variations. There are printers and toner carts with the model number 240, which may wind up in your results because they match your search.

If I limit the search to the Ink Cartridges category and use "Newly listed" sort order, I get 3200+ results:

I believe that a search using a keyword of 240 will also match any keywords that have that number with any alphabetical suffix like 240xl or 240xxl but also 240a. If you drop the 240 you limit your results to the 240xl or 240xxl models that may provide more targeted results, but you may miss out on some listings you want to see that don't use those specific terms.

If you want to see only genuine Canon ink (as opposed to compatible listings), you can try using filter options. I do not see options for the xxl version, but there are xl versions:
