Scammers on Ebay
Want to know if anyone is able to help me. I recently purchased an item here on Ebay from a seller in China, item was sent with fake tracking number. Tracking shows it was delivered but it never actually was! I contacted USPS and gave them the tracking number and they even verified the tracking number was for a completely different item that was sent to my same city/zip code. The seller also changed the category to Business Equipment after the sell so I can't even ask Ebay to step in? I have emailed customer support and they are NO HELP! I even emailed the CEO of Ebay and no response either! I just want to know if anyone else has dealt with this scam and what I can do to resolve this!

I'm sorry that happened.
1) First, call the post office to see if the tracking number label contained your name and your address.
b) If your name and address weren't on that label, ask the Post Office if they will put this in writing (it's helpful, but not required). Also, ask for the weight of the package using that tracking number. Follow the rest of the steps starting with 2 below:
2) Then, report the seller using this process
https://www.ebay.com/help/action?topicid=4022
Important, select "Suspicious seller activity"
then "Other"
Explain that the seller is using fake USPS tracking numbers
Include these phrases
Don't write a novel, it's initially being read by a computer, that's why I want you to use those 3 specific phrases in the message.
3) Finally, contact Customer Service and inform them that the seller uploaded a "false tracking number" on your purchase. Share any documentation you gathered. Request a refund.
Use the Customer Service that is on social media this way:
Just sent a private message to the page. Explain you have a fake or false tracking number situation.
Let me know how this goes, I've been burned a few times myself (including on Amazon), but I have been able to get a refund following this process.
There are additional steps to take if the above isn't effective, just come back and update me.

OP8 months agoThe post office was not much help. They would not give me the name associated with that tracking number but would only verify that it did not have my name or address associated with it. They also did verify that the weight was only 1 oz when the item I ordered would be about 25 pounds. The post office also said they would not write any letter and that if I needed something like that I would have to contact the Postmaster General and file a claim (which I did yesterday evening), but I have no clue how long that process takes. I am at my wits end having to deal with this and Ebay is no help whatsoever! They just see a tracking number that says "delivered" and they assume everything is fine. I will try what you said to do and hopefully that clears everything up. Thank you for your response!

USPS won't tell you whose name is on the package, only that your name and address is not. The fact that you got the weight is great.
If you filed a USPIS report, include that when you contact customer service.
Let me know how it turns out after Step 2 and 3
