Scam involving ebay Gift cards
I was trying to refund a buyer for a cam corder that I decided not sell. I googled a number and thought I was speaking to eBay. Foolishly,(I'm 79 years old), i followed her instructions to go to a local grocery store and purchase $400 in Ebay gift cards. I scratched them off and gave the scammer the numbers. When she asked me to do it again for 2nd line of ID I realized, it was a scam.
Do I have any recourse? If not, how can I prevent some other unfortunate eBay customer from being scammed.

Unfortunately, gift cards are like cash; once anyone knows the card code, the money on the card can be spent without recourse. That is why scammers often specifically request gift cards.

Scammers take out ads on Google that appear when users search for certain keywords like "eBay customer support", and those ads point to pages put up by scammers that have the scammers' phone numbers along with an eBay logo.
In order to contact eBay, you must go through eBay's site rather than calling.
You can use the Help & Contact link at the bottom of the page to request a call back from eBay. Use the "Contact us" link and follow the prompts for your issue and you should eventually wind up on a page with a chat option. Choose that, and the last option that appears in the chat window -- use the "See more" option -- should be "Contact an Agent" to request a call-back if you are in North America.

If using the "Contact us" link takes you directly to the chat assistant window, you may have to enter some context dependent cues to get to the call back link.
