I recently sold a Louis Vuitton bag that was in excellent condition, it went through authentication, and thought everything was fine, now the buyer is returning it , saying the bag was in horrible condition, but the buyer is showing me pictures of a completely different bag, the bag they are showing is definitely not the bag I sent. This feels and smells like a scam. and at the time I was wondering why the authentication was taking so long.

You have to let the buyer ship it back.

When returning an item, the buyer will send it back to the authenticators who will check that the item is still in the same condition and has all relevant accessories. This includes any original manufacturer tags on the item when it was sent. Once the item has been re-authenticated, it will be returned to you and the buyer's refund will be processed.
