Wisconsin Tax Bulletin 229 – April 2025
An item must meet all four of the following requirements to qualify for the precious metal bullion exemption,
as provided in sec. 77.54(74), Wis. Stats.:
1. Must be in the form of a coin, bar, round, or sheet
2. Must contain at least 35 percent gold, silver, copper, platinum, or palladium
3. Cannot be, in whole or in part, other types of property such as jewelry, works of art, scrap metal, or
electronics
4. Must be:
o Marked with weight, purity, and content, or
o Minted by a government authority on the basis of weight, purity, and content
ebay is collecting tax on items that they shouldn't. How do I get this truth heard?

Mentor4 months agoWhether an item is taxed depends on the law in the state the item is being shipped to, and also on the category the item is listed in. If a non-taxable item is listed in a taxable category, it may be taxed.
