Sales tax refund from eBay.
Someone attempted to scam me back on November 30th of 2023. I thought I purchased a 2019 Bobcat skid steer for $23,100. I wired the money according to eBay's checkout process and then the seller tried to get me to cancel the wire and wire the money to a different account (while impersonating an eBay rep). I immediately called eBay and reported the situation and they suspended the seller. I thought I had really dodged a bullet because eBay had my money, it should be a simple thing to get a refund, right? No. I had to open a claim with the Business Equipment Purchase Protection Program (AIA). After over a month of nonsense, unreturned emails and phone calls, FINALLY I was refunded the purchase price ($23,100) and only then told that eBay would be responsible for refunding the sales tax ($1,386.44). I have several emails from eBay stating I would be refunded the sales tax, several phone calls and literally hours of "on-hold" time. Why is this something which needs to be investigated after AIA has already investigated and paid the claim? I wired the money to eBay including sales tax. No sale ever took place. It took an outside insurance company to get part of my money back and I still don't have the tax back, 2-1/2 months later! It should have been a simple refund as soon as they suspended the seller.
