Sales tax questions
Hi all,
A buyer had questions about sales tax charges on their order. Is the tax paid to the sellers state or buyers state? I wasn't sure how to answer.
Thanks much for any help!

Mentor1 week agoSales tax is paid to the state in the delivery address.
Which, usually, is the buyer's state.

Mentor1 week agoEbay is required by Law in all states that charge sales tax to collect and remit that sales tax when a buyer purchases something to be shipped inside that state.
The money NEVER comes to the seller. While you will see it on your order details, the buyer pays it at the time they pay for the item they purchased from you, but Ebay pulls it and remits it directly to the appropriate state. Sellers have NO control over this at all.
If a seller ends up having to refund a buyer in part or in total, the refund will reflect appropriate sales taxes for the amount being refunded, however that part of the refund comes from Ebay, not the seller.
Here is the link to the policy. It is worth reading.
