Sales Tax Paid on Purchases Report - How done?
This year sales tax paid is deductible with IRS.
I have requested my Ebay Data and received reports on Transactions and also just Purchases.
However neither one Ebay provided shows Sales Tax paid on purchases for me to tally.
What am I missing?
Thanks

OP7 months agoMany thanks. Followed your guidance and now have a total for my tax return. Luckily it was not thousands of purchases.
It does raise the question that this might be a feature that Ebay sees increasingly requested now the IRS has made Sales Tax deductible with the SALT legislation.

I’m glad you found what you need. I’m sure that the appropriate group is aware of the need, but I assume it is a low priority. For most people who can itemize, state/local income tax is going to represent a larger deduction than sales tax.
The IRS also has a calculator you can use to estimate a deduction, once you know your major purchases. I don’t think it has been updated for 2025 yet - last time I looked it still only had 2018 - 2024.

You will have to add the math to calculate the sales tax you paid, as well as the total for your purchases.
If you state/local taxes are a flat %, that is an easy calculation. If not, you’ll have to group your purchases into categories.
if you always use the same credit card for purchases, your card issuer probably has a report the will give you a total by vendor. You can subtract the item+ shipping from the total to get to your tax paid.
(Sales tax has been deductible in past years - you must choose between sales tax or state/local income taxes for your itemized deductions. Unless you have made some major purchases, income taxes are generally a larger deduction.)
