Sales Tax
Are we all being charged sales tax on United States Postal Service mailing charges? Really? Charging us so they can do there everyday job? What kind of shake down is this? Larry Dilsaver. (This is a crock)

·3 years agoNo. You are not "being charged sales tax on United States Postal Service mailing charges." You are being charged sales tax on what you pay the SELLER to get the item to the promised delivery point because your state includes that (at least in some circumstances, which tend to be the circumstances of most eBay transactions) in the "price" to calculate your state and local sales tax. The same as if the seller simply included that fee in the price and called it "Free shipping."

·3 years agoNot everyone, just the ones that live in a state that requires Ebay to collect sales tax on the shipping charges and send to them.
Don't be mad at Ebay or USPS, be mad at your state reps.

Whether or not shipping cost is taxed depends on the state the item is delivered to.
The money goes into the STATE Treasury … not the USPS Postal Service.

Mentor3 years agoIt is your state that decides what is taxable, and the money goes to your state, not to the postal service.
Complain to your state representative.
