Sales tax
I purchased gold coins from two different sellers, one in Michigan and the other in Texas. EBay added sales tax for Michigan but not Texas. Why?
How will I know if sales tax is going to be added BEFORE committing to the purchase?

The tax is not based on the seller's location. It may be due to the category in which the item is listed. Some states also apply tax based on value - over a certain amount is taxable, etc.
If the items are both in the same category, but quite different in value, you might check your state's dept of revenue website for the rules on gold and coins.
