sales tax
i won an auction for a new unused lawn mower engine from a private person that bought the engine for a golf cart project that he never did, so it is a new engine but he already bought it at retail, decided he did not want it, and sold it, as a private individual, so why is sales tax being collected on it ?

Mentor2 years agoWhether sales tax is due depends on the law in the state that the item is being shipped to. Used items are not exempt from sales tax in most situations.
Every time an item changes hands for money, the state will want a piece of the action.
