Sales Charge

Question

Buyer ordered a 2 yr old item that was no longer available. No distribution of funds to seller. Buyer asked for refund as he received no correspondence from seller and was granted full $2,023 refund by eBay.

Order: 11/19/25 / Disputed by buyer: 12/5/2025 / Full refund by eBay: 12/6/2025 from available funds.

$275 sales fee charged to seller's bank account on 12/11/2025. Not a transaction fee, a full sales charge. How can that be?

If you had cancelled the order due to "out of stock", you could have applied for a fee credit.

You are responsible to pay the sales fees since Ebay had to step in to refund the buyer. You were a "non-performing seller".

According to Ebay:

We don't issue fee credits in any of the following situations:

You refunded the buyer outside of eBay (using PayPal to send money, for instance)
eBay stepped in to help with a return or item not received request, and the case was closed with a full or partial refund to the buyer
You deduct a portion from the buyer's refund because they returned the item used or damaged
