Sale tax collected on gold.
Why does eBay collect sales taxes on precious metals? Not required in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin does not require state sales tax on the purchase of precious metal bullion, including gold and silver
. In March 2024, a law went into effect that created a sales and use tax exemption for precious metal bullion, such as coins, bars, rounds, and sheets, as long as they contain at least 35% gold, silver, copper, platinum, or palladium.

Mentor10 months agoIt depends on the category the item is listed in. If the seller lists the item in the wrong category then sales tax will be applied by eBay. It is up to the seller to list the item in the correct category since eBay never sees the item that is listed.
