Sale of Texas License Plates on eBay
eBay took down my listing for some 1995-1996 passenger license plates under the guise that it's a violation of their policy and that Texas does not allow old plates to be resold. I told their agent that Texas DOES allow resale of old plates, and they can be re-registered. I further told the agent that 516 such auctions were allowed on eBay in the last 30 days. She said then all of them were in violation. I can't reason with eBay on this. It's obviously a computer mistake that took my auction down, and all the agent would do is continue to re-quote their policy. She would not allow me to talk to a supervisor by telling me (on a Sunday) that they all were in a meeting and not available to me.

OP1 year agoThey did it to me again today on a set that had been up for months. I lowered the price, and their artificial intelligence killed it and said it was in violation. I called eBay and explained it, and they told me I have to fill out a form and submit it telling them that the plates are for collectors, that they are expired, and that they do not violate anything. So I filled out their form. Then their artificial intelligence computer denied my explanation, saying it did not meet guidelines. I typed it over three times in different ways until their artificial intelligence computer would accept it. I told the agent that my worst fears have come true - they are allowing a computer to rule a human. I asked the agent how to list a set of license plates that are legal to resell in such a way that their artificial intelligence wouldn't prohibit it. The agent had no clue and no suggestion. Bottom line: Artificial intelligence trumps any logic or reason by a live employee of eBay. The computer rules.

OP2 years agoThat's correct, and I told the agent that these are collectible plates from 1995, and that they have over 11,000 Texas plates up for auction right now. She said then, they are every one in violation and eventually will be removed. Can't win!
