ridiculous counter-offers
Hi, there is a product for bid which said make an offer. I did make an offer below the bid asking price and they counter-offered with a price at least three times the price above which is offered on a buy it now from another vendor. So I make another offer closer to the start bid and they counter with a price 7 plus time above a normal price. No message, just stupid prices. No one has bid on the item yet. This is first time I encountered something like this. Is this a new normal behavior?

·2 years agoThere is a difference between a Buy It Now price and the Starting Price on an auction: Sellers who know what they are doing set the Starting Price at the very least they are willing to sell for.* Therefore they would need substantially more than the Starting Price, not less, to forego the hope of other bidders running it up to more than what the counteroffer is. So it is to be expected that an offer on an auction would be more than the Starting Price (as opposed to Buy It Now price where an offer more than the BIN is highly suspect).
*ETA: And those who don't know what they are doing set it at less than they are willing to sell for, so it is very unlikely that they would accept a lower offer (unless they REALLY don't know what they are doing).
