There is one mystery to me about this app and website and how it exists and operates. One that seems to be a glaring problem with what I feel like should have obvious solutions. Can someone please try to explain to me why it is that all of EBay’s “top sellers†are able to get away with having up to hundreds of thousands and maybe even millions of fake reviews posted on their profile? Furthermore, has anyone ever wondered why a seller would be willing to pay the fees that EBay charges to them each time that they make a “sale†in order to receive a new review. I can understand that they probably just create new buyer accounts to achieve this devious tactic but what about the fees that eBay charges for each item sold? I mean, if you look at these reviews, they aren’t even doing cheap items.
Thank you in advance to those that respond and I hope someday that EBay will do more to protect their customers from fraud. Right now, it appears to me that EBay doesn’t care to do much of anything about the issues with their product unless it directly affects their bottom line. Still, you would think that this particular issue would have a great effect on it, which makes me even more suspicious about why it is being allowed to take place, and about the identities of those accounts that benefit from it.

What makes you think they are "fake reviews"? Could you please provide clarification and/or examples?

Can you explain what a fake account looks like in feedback. eBay masks all user ids to look like 5***a or g***l on the feedback page.
If you log out and look at the page, you see it like everyone else does.

OP1 year agoI didn’t say the word “fake account(s)†anywhere in my post. Your question requires clarification, as you seem to have misunderstood my post and the questions within it.

Mentor1 year agoYears ago, in ebay's infancy, buyers could leave feedback when no transaction was ever made. That was quickly changed, and in order for a buyer to leave feedback for a seller, a valid transaction has to be made. Still, there were sellers selling recipes for a penny in order to garner feedback. I think that has mostly disappeared.

OP1 year agoWell to answer you 3 people who have somehow used eBay and these forums for over 20 years, without noticing this problem. Simply type “fake reviews†into the search bar and you will see so many posts mentioning the exact same thing as me that you will be shocked that you somehow have never read them. If that’s not good enough for you, you could simply check each of your own accounts and notice the fact that you have absolutely zero negative reviews despite collectively having some number well over 5,000 sales. Now, I’m sure you are just selling great items at a low cost and shipping everything immediately such that you’ve never made one customer upset in 25 years of selling items on eBay. Which is quite a feat given the items you folks are listing.
So, if the evidence of your own unnaturally supported by EBay accounts aren’t enough evidence, go look at any other seller that ships items directly from Amazon to people’s address at a huge mark-up yet manages to garner 10,000 positive reviews.
Thanks you 3, it was obvious to me already what is going on but I don’t know if the rest of the community could truly see clearly until now that 3 veterans of the message board reply acting like they’ve no idea anything about fake reviews while sporting 100% thousands of positive reviews. What a joke
