    Returns

I am struggling with the returns.

We offer a 30 Day Return Policy; Seller Pays for the Return.

After receiving numerous "Buyer's Fault Return Request" (ordered in the incorrect size, changed my mind, or no longer needed it), I decided to change the policy to "Buyer Pays for the Return." The number of sales had dropped to practically nothing. I believe the buyer's thought process goes to: if there is an issue, they will have to pay for the return, since that is the seller's policy.

Not all buyers are aware that eBay's money-back guarantee means that if the item does not work out because of the seller's fault, the seller will pay for the return, even though the seller's policy states "Buyer pays for the return".  After seeing the policy, they don't necessarily click the "see Details" link next to it.

So I had to put it back to Seller Pays for the Return, and almost instantly, the sales started coming in.

It would be nice if eBay had another option, or if the would include a "Sellers Return Policy Summary" in which you can type your Return Policy summary or add.

For example: 30-day return Policy; Party at fault will pay for the return label.

Another issue is that the majority of items we sell are diapers for $29.99.  We don't have a lot of profit margin. So sometimes, even if it is the buyer's fault, I would prefer for them to keep the item and just issue a partial refund, deducting at least the shipping cost, which is not an option if you accept returns.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to better handle this?

    Thank you,

    Len
