Returning item that didnt fit/ no tracking num

Question

I bought a watch that didnâ€™t fit and started the return process on eBay. I dropped it off at USPS in the same box it was shipped in with the original shipping label still on it. The USPS clerk generated the new return label based on the old one because the return is going to the same address, and the eBay return label address matches the one already on the box.

They gave me a receipt, but I misplaced it and now donâ€™t know the tracking number.

My concern: Am I out of luck if the seller says they never received it? Without a tracking number, how can eBay verify delivery?

Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do?

If your opened a ebay Return Request and used the supplied ebay return label, then the tracking number is already in the ebay return system. If you did not use the ebay return label, then it was up to you to add the tracking number to the return request or you could be denied a refund.
