Returning an unopened item purchased

Question

A couple of days after I ordered and paid for an item here I discovered I already have one and do not need it. I received the item yesterday and did not open or do anything with the package, which was shipped via USPS. If I write "Return to Sender" on it and take it back to the post office will I need to pay any postage? Also, I will want a full refund, do I contact the business seller directly and ask for the refund? Thanks for any advice from the community!

If you write Return to Sender, you may not get any money back at all. You lose your buyer protection for doing that.

If you want to return it, open a return request. Depending on the seller's policies, you may have to pay return shipping, but you will get the purchase price back.

Do not close your return request until you either have your refund in hand or you have the replacement item. Do not close it because the seller promises you something.
