Returning an Opened Purchase
I am asking the community about this because if you speak to 10 people at eBay, you get 10 different answers.
I purchased a perfume that has been shipped UPS Ground. Once it arrives, do I not have the right to open it and check to see that it is authentic and in good condition? If it is not, do I not have the right to return it?

OP11 months agoDelivery has not even been made yet, but seller began messaging me late last night/early this morning. Seller became increasingly argumentative and abusive in each message.
I have said nothing unkind to this seller other than I felt something was not quite kosher. Item was not in seller's possession. It was in another state and shipped by a different person via a different shipping method than it was supposed to be shipped. Then seller demanded I return the item unopened, or I would not be refunded if it is spoilt or fake.
Now, late this morning, seller began calling me names. Seller even sent me photos of my home and called it a "dump." Seller said I am not his/her caliber of person. The abuse just went on and on in message after message. I replied that I did not want to argue and asked seller to stop sending me abusive messages. Seller replied "I don't take orders." The abusive messages just kept coming and coming.
I have reported this to eBay. Will anything come of it, or will eBay just tell seller "do not do that," and seller suffers no repercussions from this behaviour?
This is so wrong.... No one should be allowed to do these sorts of things. Why become so abusive to a buyer that has said nothing unkind or ugly to you?? I have done nothing wrong. I paid for my item and expected it to be as described and to be shipped from the location it was supposed to be in via the stated shipping method. So far, nothing that was supposed to happen happened, and now seller has become extremely abusive.
Frankly, this is frightening....

Mentor11 months ago@nones_38 I am so sorry that you are dealing with a bad seller.
Use this form to report the seller>
https://www.ebay.com/help/action?topicid=4022 The seller has violated one of eBay’s policies> Seller sent threatening or abusive messages
Also on the threatening message use the 3 dots on the upper right of the message to send a report to eBay.
Do NOT respond to them any further as it just makes them happy that they are upsetting you.
As @jacbarcollectibles stated you don't have to contact eBay to ask about how to return an item NOR do you need to talk to the seller at all to return the perfume.
You can open the perfume to see if it's authenticate and still be intitled to a FULL refund if it is not. The seller can NOT refuse the refund as long as you select doesn't match pictures or description.
Here's how to file a return request in more detail>
The eBay Money Back Guarantee over rules the sellers return policy. You have 30 days from the date of delivery to file a not as described return request.
Here's what you need to do:
Open a return with the reason doesn't match description or photos.
Select the return item button on this page:
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds/return-item-refund?id=4041&st=
4 business days after filing the return request if the seller has not provided a return shipping label or a full refund then ask eBay to step in and help: https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds/ask-ebay-to-step-in?id=4701
Let me know if you need to return an item to another country as there are additional steps required. The seller pays return shipping for an item that is not as described no matter where they are located.

OP11 months agoI am unable to call eBay. Their chat section is just a computer, and it wants to call me. I tried to get a call 2X now, but no one has called.
Something is not right here. My purchase was supposed to be coming USPS from Florida. Instead, someone shipped it UPS from New York. I asked seller why? Clearly the items is supposed to be with the seller in Florida. Seller said nothing about shipping UPS from N.Y.
Do I not have the right to open my purchase and check it to be sure it is not a fake or spoilt? Seller says I do not have the right to open it if I want a refund. How do I know if I want a refund if I do not open it and see if it is okay?
Seller also removed the other listings for other perfumes. I cannot figure out what is going on. Is seller selling for someone who is not allowed to sell on eBay? Might the perfume be a fake? If it is legitimate, I definitely want it, but I have to test it to find out. Seller said I cannot open and test it and then send it back if I am unhappy. That does not sound right either.

Mentor11 months agoYou do not need to talk to anyone. You have 30 days from the date of delivery to open an “item not as described caseâ€. This overrides the sellers return policy. Go to your Purchase History and find the item. Then under “More actions†click on “Return item†and then select the reason for the return as “doesn't match description". It may ask you to attach a photo so the seller and eBay can see what was received. After this time has passed you would have to go to your payment source to see what help they can give.

OP11 months agoThank you, jjacbarcollectibles. Seller is telling me I may not open and test the perfume to determine if everything is okay. Seller wants me to return the perfume unopened. I told seller I want the perfume if it is okay. That is why I bought it. Seller insists if I open it, it may not be returned, and seller said an eBay representative said this. This just does not sound right to me.
