returned item stuck at post office

I sent a return item and it is "Stuck" at the post office

I brought the item (packed in the original box) and the QR code to the local post office in Summit,MS, where they printed the address label and sent it off.

I traced the return but the tracking says its been at BROOKLYN NY DISTRIBUTION CENTER 11256 post office for 6 days.

I wonder if the vendor altered the QR code to a non existent address.

What is supposed to happen in this unusual case.
