Returned Item Lost in Transit - eBay will not help!
What can a buyer do if a seller sends a clearly incorrect item - so different from the listing that I suspect deliberate fraud - and the return made using the eBay-provided label has been lost in the USPS system? eBay keeps sending Automated ChatBot messages that the refund cannot be processed until the seller receives the item back. I sent it back the next day using the seller's eBay-provided label. Have I been defrauded?

MentorSep 13, 2026 at 9:39 PMI had an item returned years ago. The buyer used the ebay return shipping label, but the item never arrived. Tracking never said Delivered. But because the buyer used the ebay label and got it scanned, I had to refund the buyer, even though the item never arrived. I do not recall if I ever filed a missing package or not.

Have you tried filing a missing mail search on the USPS website?
Here's how to contact a general customer service agent:
https://www.ebay.com/help/contact?type=ContactUs&topicId=4000
2. Select a category that best matches your problem.
3. Answer the chat bots question by stating what you need help with. Be brief, don't go into details.
4.Type AGENT ( you may have repeat steps 3 and 4)
5. Request a call back or live chat. (Note that the contact options vary depending on the topic and staffing availability)

OPSep 13, 2026 at 11:38 AMNote: It's been 9 days. No tracking update in over a week. The USPS does acknowledge that they received the item and it was scanned at the first stop 200 miles from here shortly after I mailed it.
