Returned a $250 item, seller won't respond.
I recently returned a green classic iPod to a seller who provided me with his address and phone number. The seller asked me to include the USPS Tracking number. After sending the item back, I lost the receipt before I could send tracking to the seller. We talked on the phone once and he said "You send me tracking number," and then hung up. Now he's ghosting me. Yes, I failed to send him the tracking number, but does that mean he can ignore me and keep both the item and my $250.00? Plus it has to be the only green iPod returned to him from my small suburb. Even if there are more than one, my return address was on the package.
What are my options?

I take it you didn't actually open a Return Request on eBay so that eBay would be involved - instead just sent it back on the seller's say-so?
You can open a Return after the fact within 30 days of receipt, and add the tracking to the return case, but if you don't have it, you're up a creek I'm afraid. You must be able to prove it was delivered back to the seller.
Maybe your PO can help finding the tracking# if it's recent, and you have payment info?

OP2 years agoThe return window had closed and it had taken me awhile to realize the item was defective. That's on me. I contacted the seller and he said to return it, which I did. Thought it was pretty cool of him to extend that offer. But no tracking number, which is also on me. I will check with the PO as I used a credit card. Thanks for your answer.

That's for the addl info, that helps understand what happened.
Good luck finding the tracking #, you would need that even if you open a case with your payment source (CC, PayPal) - that's the only way for a refund unless the seller has a conscience nagging him.
