Return shipping from a customer that used a third party shipper
So I had a customer order a tail lamp for a car. I shipped it in the original manufacturers packing and package. The order shipped to Florida, the customer messages me that the item was damaged & wants a refund, it had a crack in it. I asked for more evidence, pictures of the shipping box, pictures of the original item he was replacing ( I didn’t want him trying to claim my item was broken and he ends up getting a free tail lamp, First he tells me he can’t because he is in Costa Rica, then wants to send pics via WhatsApp. Turns out it was sent to a third party shipper that supposedly was going to ship it to him in Costa Rica, he apparently never had possession of the item & states it wasn’t the shippers fault even though it was damaged during shipping. Why would a shipper open a box, when the damage exists yes, but was relatively minor? Why wouldn’t he send additional photos of evidence?
The only options I was given was a full refund or pay to have it shipped back, leaving me out of pocket for shipping and an item I cannot resale. So am I just out of money because it was out of my control & damaged in shipping? What happens when the time has passed and EBay is “called in to handle it”
