I was charged almost $300 to send a bike back that I had sold and I told eBay to let the buyer keep it it took that money out of my account that's not fair

If you did not want the item returned, you needed to respond to the buyer's return request with a refund.

This is what should have been done to issue a full refund

Go to your Returns dashboard
Select View return details beside the item.
Select Give a full refund and then Continue.
On the next page you'll see the refund amount. Select Refund the buyer.
