Return requested and completed but I want a refund for the return label cost
Summary: cism_683 shared their experience of dealing with a return request after a buyer received fewer items than expected, even though the listing was for individual pieces. They accepted the return, issued a refund, and sought advice on recovering the return shipping label cost. jacbarcollectibles and momtoabeautifuldaughter pointed out that showing multiple items in photos could be misleading, suggesting that only the item for sale should be displayed. krazzykats advised against attempting to reclaim the shipping cost and not to relist the item, considering the losses. evry1nositswindy explained the return policy requirements, emphasizing that the shipping cost wouldn't be refunded. cism_683 acknowledged the advice and planned to adjust their listing strategy for individual items moving forward.
I recently had a buyer request a return for receiving an INAD as they only received 1 instead of 5. This listing was never a listing for all five but I was selling the glasses individually. I had already sold which was clearly listed on the page. In addition, I had updated the considiton stating the REMAINING 1 had a small flea bite. I also repeated this information stating that only 1 was available. I accepted the return and paid for the return label and have refund the buyer, I submitted a buyer report in ann attempt to get back at least the cost of the return shipping label. How long does it take and how can I avoid this issue in the future? Take new photos every time one posts?

OP2 weeks agothanks all - going forward, I will know better. But what if you are selling flatware but by the piece. Do you show the entire set? I have seen people post it both with everything and with just one of each item.

Mentor2 weeks agoI'd show just 1 of each item....not show the whole set if you are doing piece by piece.

OP2 weeks agothanks - I'll do that going forward. What about serving pieces? Sell them separately or show them in the same listing? I'm not a professional seller, just trying to sell items from my mother's estate.

OP2 weeks agonever mind. I found a listing showing how they handled it and that's waht I'll do as they have sold a lot doing it this way.

Mentor2 weeks agoAn item not as described case is the buyer using the eBay 30 day money back guarantee. You (and all sellers) are required to either pay return shipping or refund outright not expecting the item to be return. This unfortunately is the cost of doing business and the shipping cost will not be refunded.
krazzykats
Mentor2 weeks agoYou won't be able to get the return shipping costs back.
Remove the pictures showing all the glasses and only use the pic showing the one for sale. It's not a set, so don't show a set.
At this point, and what this glass has already cost you out of pocket, it's really not worth relisting in my opinion.

OP2 weeks agoI see lots of listings showing multiples of items but selling as individuals. No where in the listing was this listed as a set. It clearly showed quantity as indivduals with discounts for multiple purchase.
jacbarcollectibles
Mentor2 weeks agoYou made a mistake when making the listing. You showed all of the glasses in the photos. This makes the buyer think that you had multiple sets of five glasses. You should have only shown one glass with the quantity available. The glass that had the defect should have been listed by itself since they all were not the same.
You will not get the shipping charge refunded by eBay.

OP2 weeks agosee response above. I really don't feel like I was at fault in this one.

Mentor2 weeks agoYou may not feel like you were at fault but you were.
When buyer opens an INAD case you have to pay return shipping and eBay isn't going to reimburse that.
Since one glass had a defect it should have been listed separately anyway.
