Return request
A Buyer is asking to return an item stating, “item box was damaged in shipping and Factory seal somehow came undoneâ€
I state NO RETURNS on my page. This item is a rare, vintage Lego set that is Factory sealed. Buyer shows pictures, and clearly he opened the box and undoing the seal.
He states I should return it under the EBay Guarantee. The item held its value because it was unopened & had the seal in place. If I return the item (which I gave him a $30 discount on, I will not be able to sell it for more than $40-50. This is a loss of at least $150!
Am I forced to accept the return to keep my outstanding ratings or not accept the return because of the significant loss?

Mentor10 months agoIf the buyer opened an "Item not as described" case then you have three days to accept the return. If you do not and the buyer "Asks eBay to step in" then you will lose the item and eBay will force the refund and give you a defect on your account. If is always best to accept the return and make the refund.
It is always best to have a return policy as this gives you some special rights that a No Returns policy does not.

If the buyer opens a return request and chooses "Doesn't match description" as the reason, and he knows that he can ask eBay to step in and help, then eBay will force you to refund. Under this process, eBay usually doesn't require the buyer to return the item, and takes the money out of your account to refund the buyer. The buyer gets the money back, and gets to keep the item. This is the way it is.
