return policy on wool blanket with toxic mothproofing
Hi,
I bought a vintage NOS throw blanket - when it arrived I decided to research the mothproofing method which was printed on the attached card -a chemical called 'DIELDRIN'. Turns out it has been banned because it's carcinogenic. Any basic search on google turns up this fact.
The seller is contrite, offered a refund, but didn't refund my shipping.
Question is: Am I entitled to a refund on shipping or not?

OP4 months agoPossibly I left out some information. When Dieldrin comes into contact with skin, it can be absorbed. As a carcinogen, that would make this a hazardous material. The seller instructed me to destroy the blanket, which I did. I have done some further reading, and I think that the mothproofing would be considered a hazardous material. Hazardous materials are banned on Ebay.
So - despite having destroyed the blanket, per seller's instructions - am I entitled to get my shipping back?

You would have been entitled to get your shipping back if you had opened the return case (sellers have the option to refund within the return case without requiring the return). As noted, you'll need to work with the seller to see if he will refund your shipping.

You're welcome. I'm glad you did your research on the blanket!

If you had opened a return for an item that was not as described, the seller would have had to provide a return shipping label. If you return on your own without going through an eBay resolution case, it's between you and the seller.
