Return item using false claim of defective
I have an item that was purchased by an individual and it is electronic part for a specific vehicle. In my desc I specifically have the model and also state that you must make sure you are purchasing for correct model and there are not returns. The ind is now claiming the item is defective due to water damage and I missed the the 4 day dispute window( bc I was never notified in time). The pictures the ind used in his claim show the steering wheel of a different car. Ebay has started the return process. Any options as this probably is one of two things. Bait and switch with the item or the guy did not clearly read the desc and purchased for the car in the picture and is trying to return to me. I did mark the item with my own markings and took pictures just in case. I'm afraid he is going to return his defective item and keep mine or he is returning my item bc it clearly doesn't fit his car and using the false defective claim reason. Thoughts?

·3 years agoWhere did you come up with the "4 Day Dispute Window".
There isn't one.
When a buyer files an INAD, the seller has 3 days to accept the return and provide return shipping or refund without returning.

Mentor3 years agoHi @edwelch4 In addition to the reply and information @twinkling.smile provided here is a link to your Seller protections, some may apply depending on what happens with the return.
Seller protections | eBay
I did not check your listings but if you are set to NOT accept returns I would suggest you change that to Accepting returns because eBay has a work around for the No returns accepted setting, all a Buyer has to do is claim Not as described or arrived damaged and eBay gives them a pre paid label which comes out of your pocket.
I use 30 day free returns and the Seller protections allow me to withhold up to 50% of the item cost and the original paid shipping if the Buyer tries to scam me. I also then use the Report Buyer link on the transaction then add them to my blocked list. I SELDOM have to use the full benefits of our Seller prtections but it is nice to know they are there when needed.

OP3 years agoThanks for the information. The one issue I have with this is they claim as defective and even if I get it back, I cant test the device to see if they did not do something to it to make it defective. I think selling on eBay will be my last at this point. The pictures of the item he has posted and the item i have in my post are not the same and I hope that eBay will recognize that and the fact that the car he is trying to put the item in is not the model I stated in my desc.

OP3 years agoDo you happen to know how to talk to a human customer service person at eBay?

·3 years agoYou can have CS call you back, but it won't go the way you want it to.
They'll refund the buyer from your account and let them keep the item.
You can request to have CS call you back at the address below.

Ebay almost always sides with the buyer. To prevent a forced return (and a nasty strike on your account) you'd better accept the return request and send a return label.

Consulting eBay is not a good idea. Ebay wants that sellers solve their problems by themselves. A strike can be the consequence if you contact eBay.
If you offered free returns, you could return a part of the whole amount if the item is not returned as it was.

OP3 years agoThanks for the information. I very seldom sell anything. The claim item pictures are clearly not the same as the pictures in my post as well as the steering wheel that he is supposedly getting the error on. I just need to get a conversation with eBay.
