Return damaged
Summary: rutherford6789 shared their experience with a buyer who returned a damaged silver necklace without opening a return request. Despite suspecting bad intentions and facing challenges with the help assistant, they exhibited willingness to cooperate by asking if the shipment was insured. golfingaddict advised providing a refund and moving on, while lady_madonna suggested refunding only the item's price.
Sold a silver byzantine silver necklace and the buyer wanted to return. I do not accept returns because it has been abused, but told this buyer I would accept but they were responsible for shipping. They did not open a return request, shipped the item and it was returned damaged. I have a good read on individuals, and the email trail supports my suspicion - bad buyer and they will most likely leave negative offensive feedback. I have asked if they insured the shipment and that I would hold onto the items until it is resolved - providing pictures of the damage - no response. Since they did not open a return request I can't get past AI in the help assistant. What would you do?

OP1 week agowhy should I refund if the package was damaged - the buyer has not told me if it was insured at a higher amount and UPS covers $100. I would think a claim should be made before automatically refunding. In addition Ebay noted that if it is damaged, you should consider refunding 50% of the items value with no shipping fees included in the refund.
