Question

I initiated a return. Brought the box to the post office, followed the tracking and it came back : return to sender , vacant

My account says my refund is in progress..

I don’t know what to do with the defective item I tried to return.
what do I do?

Once a Buyer has been refunded, eBay considers the case closed. After you receive your refund, you are no longer required to return the item. If the Seller still wants the item, they need to send you a prepaid return label. Even then, you would not need to return it.

In the meantime, you can do whatever you'd like with that purchase.
