I returned an item but did not use the free offered shipping, not worried as I didn’t want him to pay, he received item back and asked if I could open a return claim so he can refund me, I tried and it gives me a qr code and is asking I ship, he already got it back????

The seller may have to cancel the transaction ... choosing 'Buyer requested cancellation' ... in order for you to be refunded. Tell the seller that doing that won't harm his account in any way.
